The thing that started me in trapping is that my grandfather trapped and he taught my uncle. My uncle then taught me and I love the outdoors. We now have between 300-350 traps. Mostly for coon and muskrats but I am trying fox. This year I only caught 8 coon and 3 - 4 possum. My uncle taught me everything I know. I am 12 years old and trapping, hunting, and fishing are my favorite things.
I think trapping helps nature a lot. If we couldn't trap, tamed animals would be killed all the time from coyotes, bobcats, foxes and other meat eating animals. It would put many animals endangered. Raccoons would raid cornfields, vacant houses, and attic's. Skunks would dig up yards and attack chickens. Deer population will be way down. There would be few rabbits, and Pheasant population would be very low. Rabies and other diseases would kill thousands of people. I hope the tradition carries on.
